Frequently-Asked Questions

How early/late are you open for arrivals/departures?

We are very flexible. If you give us an approximate time of arrival/departure ahead of time, we will either be there for you or make arrangements for someone else to take care of you.

How far is it to Wellington?

It usually takes 30 minutes by car—but in the rush hour it may take 10-15 minutes longer.

Is it easy to park in Wellington?

On the weekend it is easier and there are parking buildings but they can be expensive.

Is there public transport nearby?

The Hilltop Hideaway is only a few minutes walk from the Paekakariki Railway Station and the buses from Wanganui/Napier/Taupo stop nearby; however you must tell the bus company when you are making the booking. It is a “requested” stop.

How often do the trains go to and from Wellington?

They leave every half hour and run until late at night. People often leave their car here and go to the city by train.

Are there things to do in the area?

Yes there are many activities and things to do and see in both wet and fine weather. We are able to give good advice about the local attractions. If you want to check it out now you can see for yourself on www.kapititourist.co.nz for the Kapiti area. The hideaway is a good base for exploring Wellington—whose attractions can be found at www.wellingtonnz.com

Can we get to the Bird Sanctuary on Kapiti Island?

Yes! We ring the boatman and can usually get permits and one or two people on the Island at short notice.

Do you provide locked storage for valuables?

Yes. The ensuite rooms are locked (by you).

Is there parking available?

There is free parking on the street, (along with our car) and then you must climb 35 steps—or walk up the path to the hideaway on the top of the hill. But the VIEW is worth it!

Do you have internet access for my laptop?

Free wi-fi. We’ll provide the necessary passwords on arrival.
